Richmond, VA – The Mcshin Foundation was established in 2004 and has since then continued to push forward in its mission to fight addiction and substance use disorder. The non-profit, full-service Recovery Community Organization (RCO) is committed to helping individuals and families by educating them and helping them get over the risks of addiction and substance use disorder.
“Founded in 2004, The McShin Foundation is Virginia’s leading non-profit, full-service Recovery Community Organization (RCO), committed to serving individuals and families in their fight against Substance Use Disorders. While providing the tools for recovering individuals to create positive lifestyles, we aim to spread the word of recovery and educate families, communities, and government regarding SUDs, as well as reduce the stigma attached to them. McShin is the only RCO in Virginia accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Peer Recovery Support Services (CAPRSS),” said the organization’s spokesperson.
The Mcshin Foundation achieves its goals in different ways, especially through education and recovery programs. They focus on making sure that more people are saved and enlightened about the substance use disorder pandemic and how it affects them, their families, and society at large. Their recovery coach training program is hosted monthly and offers community members and professionals the tools and information needed to work with people who suffer from substance use disorders.
They also offer the Peer Recovery Specialist Training service, a 72-hour Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services training which is a prerequisite for the Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) certification with the Virginia Certification Board (VCB). The training is aimed at adults who have experienced or lived with mental health and/or substance use challenges or family members and supporters of individuals with mental health and/or substance use challenges. Mcshin Foundation throws open the course to eligible and interested participants who are well-grounded in their mental health and/substance use recovery.
In addition to all the above, McShin also offers sober living recovery residences to those addicted to drugs and alcohol. Their housing provides individuals with safe and affordable housing while they progress in their recovery journey. Residents have access to the recovery center and its activities, as well as structure and accountability within the house.
The Mcshin Foundation has earned several top reviews from community members over the years. Individuals and families seeking help for mental health or substance abuse-related issues can learn more about Mcshin Foundation by visiting their website.
